I have had the chance to visit the Lahore Fort on a number of occasions. The fort always seemed to be in a worse condition than it was during my previous visit. While photographing the fort I used to think about how the fort was kept during the British occupation. My assumption was that they might have done a better job.
So I went on to look for old images of the fort during the days of the British Raj. What I saw was not what I had expected. During the British Raj,the Diwan-e-Am was converted into army barracks, the Diwan-e-Khaas into a private residence and the Moti Masjid into a treasury. A number of buildings were also constructed in a haphazard manner throughout the fort.
I present here some of those photographs from the British period along with some of my own photographs taken over the past few years.
